Before you go

Good to have on hand for any appointment.

01A valid form of photo ID, even if it's expired — it still helps confirm your identity.
02Your codice fiscale, if you have one — several services move faster with it.
03Confirmation of your AIRE registration status, since most services assume it's up to date.
04Original documents, not photocopies, for anything being certified, translated, or registered.

Frequently asked

Quick answers.

No — every service is by appointment, booked through our online calendar. Walking in without a booking usually means being turned away.

Book the "Consent from the other parent" appointment for the parent who can't attend, so their consent is on file before or at the time of the passport appointment.

From age 12, EU rules require fingerprints to be taken as part of the passport application, which changes the appointment. Under-12 applications don't include fingerprinting.

A special power of attorney (procura speciale) covers one specific act. A general power of attorney (procura generale) grants broader, ongoing authority, which is why it takes longer and its fee varies by scope.

Booking itself is free. Each service carries its own administrative fee, shown when you book and payable at the appointment.
